Gastroenterology

Branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders.

Expert Treatment Process

Digestive health is crucial for nutrient absorption and overall wellness. Our gastroenterology team diagnoses and treats conditions affecting the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, including acid reflux, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), liver diseases, and pancreatic disorders.

We employ advanced diagnostic tools like high-definition endoscopes, endoscopic ultrasound, and capsule endoscopy to visualize the GI tract non-invasively. Treatment modalities range from medication management to minimally invasive procedures like endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).

The treatment process begins with diagnostic procedures such as endoscopy for visual examination of the upper GI tract, colonoscopy for inspection of the colon and rectum, and imaging studies like ultrasounds, CT scans, and MRI for detailed views. Treatment planning includes medical management through dietary changes, medications, and lifestyle modifications, as well as interventional procedures like removal of polyps, dilation of strictures, or stent placement when necessary.

Follow-up care involves monitoring your response to treatment through regular appointments and adjusting plans based on progress and symptom relief.

What to Expect and How to Prepare

Before procedures, fasting is typically required for 6-8 hours before an endoscopy, and bowel preparation involving laxatives and clear liquids is necessary before a colonoscopy. After procedures, expect some sedation effects to linger, so rest is recommended. Dietary guidelines involve reintroducing foods slowly, starting with light meals.

Patient tips include disclosing all medications and supplements to your doctor, bringing a companion as you’ll need someone to drive you home, and keeping a symptom diary to aid in diagnosis.
